Working with an embedded specialist

We agree the expertise and level of experience the role requires, then introduce the specialist who would do the work. They work within your team’s priorities, tools and review process, take responsibility for agreed work, communicate progress and raise risks early.

The role, availability, working hours and reporting arrangements are agreed before work begins. Throughout the assignment, we support the specialist and coordinate any changes with your team.

Is this the right shape?

Who this engagement serves best, and where a different one serves you better.

Best for

  • You need expertise or experience not currently available in your team
  • You need additional capacity for a product or project, full-time or part-time
  • You can designate someone to direct and review the specialist’s work while retaining responsibility for overall delivery

Not the right fit

  • You need to assess a problem or define an approach before adding a specialist: start with Workshops
  • You want Extra.dev to lead and coordinate delivery across disciplines: consider Teams
  • You have a defined scope and want a fixed price for the outcome: consider Projects

How we work

  1. Agree the role

We agree the responsibilities, required experience, allocation, working hours and access requirements before work begins.

  2. Meet the specialist

We introduce the proposed specialist for you to meet and assess. The person, start date and terms are agreed before work begins.

  3. Start the work

We coordinate access, context and initial priorities with your team. The specialist begins work within your tools and review process, with onboarding shaped by the role and your security requirements.

  4. Ongoing support

We support the specialist throughout the assignment and coordinate any changes or handover with your team.

Questions, answered

  • Yes. You meet the proposed specialist and assess their experience and fit before agreeing the engagement.

  • You decide who sets priorities, reviews work and makes decisions. We support the specialist and coordinate the engagement.

  • It depends on the role and availability. We confirm the proposed specialist and start date when agreeing the engagement, allowing for your access and security process.

  • Both. Allocation, working hours and time-zone overlap are agreed in advance. Part-time work follows an agreed schedule.

  • The agreed rate covers the specialist’s time working on your assignment. Before work begins, we set out the allocation, billing basis and how expenses or absences are handled, so you know what will be invoiced.

  • The specialist works under the access and security requirements agreed for the engagement. Access is limited to approved individuals and reviewed when the assignment changes or ends.

  • You own work produced for the engagement under our agreement. Code, designs and documentation are delivered through the repositories and tools agreed with you.

  • We plan known absences with you. If availability or fit changes, we discuss the options, coordinate a handover where needed and propose a replacement for your approval.

  • Allocation and notice terms are agreed at the start. Changes or an end to the assignment are managed under those terms.
